History of the Rectory and Education Building since the 1970's

A) Redeemer Rectory

Early '70s it became an extended household for Rev. Pulkingham family plus college-age adults. It's a big house, kitchen, dining and large living room on the 1st Floor, central stairs to 2nd Floor with five bedrooms, plus a third floor garret. In the early 1990's the Davis family lived there for a couple of years.

In recent years it's been unused, or temporary shelter for victims of Hurricane's Katrina and Ike. Only the area under the flat roof is used, by Scouts for camping equipment, bike center storage.

B) Education 3rd Floor

In the early '70s we remodeled the 3rd Floor to become the offices of Fisherman. Inc. which was the forerunner to the business side of Community of Celebration. At that time the Rector's office was at the Dallas St entrance on the ground floor, where the Nursery now is.

In the late 1970's we turned all of the rooms on Education First Floor into a Montessori school, displacing the Rector to join the other clergy and lay staff up on the third floor. As Redeemer's congregation shrank, the Rector and Admin. Assistant were the only ones left on the 3rd Floor.

Soon after Rev. Nan Doerr became Rector, in 2007 we remodeled the former bookstore into two new offices for the Rector and for the Admin. Assistant. The office furniture on the 3rd floor was moved down, but there still are e.g. couches and coffee tables on the third floor: see photos
