Experience working in a team environment with emphasis on collaborative projects

  • As Project Manager for Mobil Global Professional Services, I managed a nine-person project across two cities plus two paralegals that developed best practices sharing across 22 countries.

Ability to adapt to unique situations

  • My original career as a New-Zealand trained chemical engineer has taken me to the US and back due to the 1981 Iran-Iraq war disrupting the crude supply situation for New Zealand. We returned to the US in 1990 for my wife to pursue a music education degree in Princeton. Five years later Mobil closed their Princeton R&D headquarters and relocated us to their corporate HQ then in Fairfax, VA prior to Exxon-Mobil.

  • The very reason I came to Whatcom County is driven by weather-impacts on the refining industry: the Rita and Katrina Hurricanes made refineries in this county get closer consideration from their owners as being a strategic alternate to Middle East/Venezuelan crudes through the Gulf Coast: use Canadian crudes instead.

  • As part of my life-long family tradition of public service through my mother's family going back generations to the Treaty of Waitangi in New Zealand, I have always donated a considerable amount of my outside of work hours to pro-bono civic activities, as listed on www.BobAndrew.info/civic.htm

  • I effectively manage organizational documents on both the internet and on departmental networks, thus making them securely available either at work via LAN or outside of work from authenticated browser.

A master’s degree

  •  I also have two years towards a Ph.D. in "Expert Systems for Steelmaking", plus I taught for three years

Must have the ability to work with a diverse student body and staff

  • Our own family is diverse: my daughter Meagan is married to a Guatemalan Edvin and our son Colin's partner Tracy is African-American. Back in New Zealand my niece's husband is Maori. As a family we also respect diversity of sexual orientation: my wife Diane's life-long vocal singing partner is gay.
