Subject: Application for Director of Communication and University Relations

I feel fortunate to be living here in the Pacific NorthWest in the 21st century, when this opportunity has arisen after the incumbent retired following several decades of service. I am particularly excited by the combination of responsibilities in this role that will enable WWU to gain synergy and cohesion across web, broadcast and print media. This will help have richer content and diverse style, while retaining consistent messages to the community, students, alumni, state-level funding decision-makers, grant organizations, international partners etc.

The attached documentation shows I have the technical and supervisory background to provide oversight of all  forms of Communication now used at WWU , and others that could be (e.g. "podcasts" for potential students). One of my recent projects - managing the technology upgrade of videoconferencing and satellite data feeds to the EPA Emergency Operations Center - is an indicator of the responsibilities that taxpayers have entrusted me with. My strong mapping background with DOJ Civil Rights in upgrading Redistricting tools for Census 2000 can also help technically ensure that WWU's map presence on the internet is more readily discoverable, plus improve e.g. accessibility and navigation of the campus map to visitors in web as well as print-oriented formats.

Also, as is eloquently testified to by my references, I have a good track record with University Relations that can directly benefit WWU's External Affairs team - this is complemented by my international teaching experience in Analysis & Design for three years in New Zealand. That short period of teaching experience is also beneficial in understanding the needs of WWU faculty to ensure internal communication flow is timely, accurate and relevant.

Attached are the following required documents in support of my application:

1) Letter of interest, addressing all desired qualifications

2) Completed Resume, featuring University experiences

3) References: two in Communications, two in Relations

All these documents are posted as links off one page of my personal website at www.BobAndrew.info/WWU/

I have methodologies and tools that I could bring to this position, and welcome the interview process by your selection committee to explore the level of interest through dialog. Some of these will require funding, but others are at no cost that I  bring with me just from my set of well-developed professional skills and accompanying tools.

I look forward to the opportunity for us to have a face-to-face interview soon. Note that I already have an out-of-state family commitment next week Wed Feb 22 - Sun Feb 26, but I can be available either before or after those dates.
