Professional & Family Life of Bob ANDREW: now in United Arab Emirates

Neighborhood Notes - Foxhall: 9 May 2001

By a vote of 2 to 1, Council’s Subcommittee on Redistricting has proposed a plan that will make Ward 2 smaller in population, and move all of the Foxhall Community back into Ward 3. It is fair to say that opinion on this issue is mixed in our neighborhood, with those living along MacArthur Boulevard leaning more to going back to Ward 3, while those along Foxhall Rd find advantages in being in Ward 2.

It is interesting what people value - for some it is concern that we will lose our voice in regards to GU if we are no longer in ANC2E, even though the BZA order names FCCA as a party to the ten-year campus plan monitoring process. (This is also true for BZA orders on Georgetown Day School and Rock Creek Elementary).

For others it is the Ward 2 parking sticker that allows us to park in Georgetown or downtown for more than two hours. If Kathy Patterson doesn't succeed in making Residential Parking stickers valid city-wide, can we at least get the same dual-ward stickers that a portion of Cleveland Park got when they were moved (under protest) into Ward 1 after the previous census? Interestingly enough, all of Cleveland Park remained in the same Ward 3 ANC!

With just over 2,000 residents, if separated from Ward 2 again it is also possible the FCCA area could have just a single ANC commissioner, rather than split across two SMD's as we are today. This could present an interesting dynamic in ANC3D, unless our area remains part of ANC2E.

Those interested in helping plan the future of this wider neighborhood should take part in the “Neighborhood Planning Workshop” being held at Mt Vernon College Library Auditorium, 9:30 - noon Saturday May 12.
