Neighborhood Notes - Foxhall: 7 June, 2000Hardy Recreation Center was featured in last week's front-page article about the energy of local parent volunteers to raise money for new playground equipment. It was great to see this initial phase by the city completed a week ahead of schedule. The need to get safety surface down right away threw off our planned schedule for an official ceremony, but we will now do that in the fall as part of our annual Foxhall picnic. While our neighborhood these days bustles with pre-school age kids, we still don't have a large number of school age kids, except on Saturday mornings from visiting Stoddert league "Under 8" soccer teams. One consequence is that DCRP's Urban Summer Camp that starts June 19 is nowhere near fully subscribed. At only $35 for each 2-week session, this is a real bargain for kids aged from 7 to 12. Activities will include Arts & Crafts, Table Tennis, Soccer, Field Trips, special Movies, Nature Walks and Swimming, between 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday through Friday, in four summer sessions. Those interested should contact Hardy Rec Center Director Ireatha Robinson at 282-2190. (She also has information on day-camp slots that are still available in other city Parks & Rec. nearby). For kids between 3 and 5, Jennifer Berry returns again to run our Sundial Summer Camp. Parents can sign up for individual weeks at $60 each. Sundial will be held 9 a.m. - Noon with a morning snack. Indoor activities include Arts, Crafts, Dance, and Music. Outdoor activities include e.g. riding trikes, waterplay and games. To sign up, call Jennifer at 337-0861 or e-mail jenjberry@aol.com © Bob Andrew, Foxhall |
