Neighborhood Notes - Foxhall: 7 February 2001
Until summer of 1999, the Georgetown Current was not home-delivered
throughout the whole Foxhall community that year the Foxhall Community Citizens
Association made a conscious move to down-size our own monthly Foxhall News
from 12 pages to four, and to re-employ kids who delivered it to also deliver the weekly
Current. Having the Current became very popular with our
residents, and contributes much to their awareness of quality-of-life issues in common
with other readers in this western part of the city.
By winter that same year, this weekly column was initiated, and our delivery kids were
then joined by Susan Palmer, a vigorous senior and cancer survivor. Through all weathers,
she has always been our most conscientious in covering her route, easily the largest
extending from Colony Hill at Reservoir / Foxhall to the newest town-homes at MacArthur /
Lingan. However, a broken wrist has brought her delivery days to a halt, but we did not
want to let Susan move onto her other projects without first rendering a public
thank-you.
Thanks are also due to the Hardy Playground Pals who continue through all this coldest
weather to keep working on the tot-lot, assembling play equipment and spreading wood
chips. Also now making progress is the Contractor for soccer field renovation, having
completed a new concrete sidewalk between the playing area and Rock Creek International
School, from Foxhall Rd to the Rec Center, and clearing away old tree trunk stumps. Actual
soccer field clearing awaits the right conditions to minimize soil erosion.
