Neighborhood Notes - Foxhall: 6 December, 2000
This week Fox 5 is holding two community forums back-to-back. The first was held
at Palisades Citizens Association on Tuesday, the next with Foxhall Community on Wednesday
December 6. These forums are very informal, begin with an introduction from the community
and then lead by a person from the Fox 5 station. They will introduce their on-air
personalities, managers and editors, then get right into community issues, followed by
questions of their own.
Fox 5 have already made it clear they want to know what our community likes and dislikes
about the news...what they see too much of and what they don't see enough of? Most
importantly, what is happening in the Foxhall neighborhood that Fox can cover and feature
on their broadcast.
The major issue FCCA plans to cover is traffic from soup-to-nuts: fragmented comprehensive
planning, incomplete implementation of agreed projects, and spasmodic enforcement of laws.
Fox 5 are in a unique position to illustrate e.g. ill-timed and ill-phased traffic lights,
with their helicopter which could graphically show this in real-time, or capture on
video-tape for later use in making the case to Division of Transportation.
However, another issue which unfortunately has not gone away is D.C. Parks &
Recreations failure to hold up their end with Friends of Hardy.
Equipment purchased by Hardy Playground Pals has arrived from the manufacturers but not
yet installed by DPR. Contracts have been let for both basketball and soccer renovation,
but while the court has been done by Ft Myers Construction, there is no sign of BB&I
Contracting for the soccer field. We hope that at worst this is just failure to get
started, and not anything amiss with our tax dollars. DPRs failure to answer
repeated phone calls and letters to their HQ does not give us any comfort.
