Neighborhood Notes - Foxhall: 4 July 2001

MPD’s “Partnership for Problem Solving” in PSA203 and Office of Planning’s Neighborhood Cluster 13 Workshop process are both getting down to nitty-gritty issue resolution. The areas covered by these designations include all of Foxhall Crescents, Foxhall Village, Georgetown Reservoir, Palisades, Spring Valley and Wesley Heights.  (Which raises the interesting question: should this weekly item be only in the “Georgetown Current” or also be printed in the “Northwest Current”?)

PSA203 have been cracking down on speeders, which will be helped significantly by the new photo-radar system being launched by MPD this week, with the press conference being held on MacArthur Boulevard in honor of the elderly pedestrian who was killed by a driver. In the coming weeks, parking enforcement will be an issue, further complicated by the Ward boundary changes. Both Councilor Patterson and Mendelson are speaking at the July 18 FCCA meeting, and parking enforcement/legislation will be a key issue, particularly given the specific reciprocity issues for student drivers that are a condition of the Georgetown University Campus plan.

 The Neighborhood workshop (see www.foxhall.org/Cluster13.htm) held May 12 was the first step on creating a SNAP (Strategic Neighborhood Action Plan) as well as setting up a mechanism for updating the Comprehensive Plan and providing annual input into the Budget process. A specific short-term accomplishment is all the Clusters in Ward 3 are feeding into the Ward 3 Traffic Committee: a formal initiative by the Mayor with named representatives from each ANC. Since FCCA is coming back to Ward 3, we have asked to also be represented on that committee.

This process is being helped by DDOT assigning one engineer Clarissa Byrd solely to Ward 3 – she already took care of many items raised by the Palisades, and hopefully will do likewise for Foxhall.
