Neighborhood Notes - Foxhall: 31 May, 2000We now have great news for Hardy Rec Center - DCRP have now made good on replacing equipment removed in the the dead of winter. Thanks to Department officials like Tony McIntyre, Darnell Thompson , Jane Huntington and Sandrea Woolfolk, the Tot Lot and Big Kids Lot now have shiny, colorful climbing apparatus. Thanks also to many "Friends of Hardy" who came out last Saturday to spread wood chips underneath so kids can play safely right away. But this is not the end of improvements. The sight of empty playground lot galvanized local parents to form "Hardy Playground Pals" chaired by Ed Dixon to raise funds. They have developed a fine brochure that is being personally delivered to neighboring homes, plus using tax-free 501(C)3 structure of F.O.H. Inc for targeted mailings to businesses (such as realtors) that have directly benefited from our neighborhood's many volunteer efforts to sustain the quality of life in Foxhall and lower Palisades. Even the smallest donations will have donor names listed on a plaque. Donation of $150 qualify a "Buddy" to have their name engraved on a brick that will form part of the new entrance. There are other classes of donors, right up to $5,000 "Friends for Life" getting an engraved plate on a major piece of equipment or playground bench. Good news for our area does not stop with Hardy. Thursday will see the launch of "Washington DC - Beyond the Monuments!" information initiative by National Endowment for Humanities, Historical Society of Washington, Metro, DC Heritage Tourism Coalition and Washington Convention Center. It features posters and folded maps of nine neighborhoods to visit - Adams Morgan, Brooklands, Capitol Hill, Downtown, DuPont Circle, Georgetown, Lafeyette Square, Shaw-U Street and SouthWest. © Bob Andrew, Foxhall |
