Neighborhood Notes - Foxhall: 28 March 2001
In recent months several new web-sites have been launched with
relevance for area residents ANC2E's website, maintained by Chair Peter Pulsifer,
is found at http://users.erols.com/anc2e.
This is a well-designed site, featuring
agenda for upcoming monthly meetings, links to a map of single-member districts,
contact information for Commissioners, committees and ANC records. Also featured
are key issues and actions: ABC matters, zoning and
preservation, public safety, traffic and parking, university relations and
schools. The site contains links to recent major BZA decisions, D.C.
regulations, other ANC's and nearby community associations.
D.C. Office of Planning has finally put up a website at http://planning.dc.gov,
but it is worth the wait. It clearly shows how they are organized into
functional groups. Development Review includes Historic Preservation,
Transportation and Zoning; Revitalization Planning staff includes
Economic Revitalization and Commercial Planning, Neighborhood Planning
Coordination, and Plan Implementation. I.T. staff are responsible for
Geographic Information Systems producing maps used to support planning communications and decisions, plus the vital State Data Center role as Census
data repository for ward boundary changes that must arise from Census 2000.
Information pages include the Comprehensive Plan, population and housing
statistics, maps of development projects, wards and census tracts. Summaries are
available for major initiatives and projects currently in the planning phase,
such as Anacostia Waterfront, Downtown Action Agenda, East of the River, Georgia
Avenue Revitalization, McMillan Reservoir, NOMA, Takoma Central District,
and the Washington Geographic Information System.
Hopefully soon to be featured will be planning for the re-opening of
Pennsylvania Avenue - for a preview of what could be, see http://www.flmarchitects.com/pa.htm
by Franck Lohsen McCrery.
