Neighborhood Notes - Foxhall: 26 December 2001This week Rodney Brown was introduced as the gentlemen that D.C. Parks & Recreation are planning to bring in to be the new Director at Hardy Recreation Center. Mr. Brown has a good track record already at another DPR Rec. Center, active in promoting a wide range of sport activities for recreation. He could bring a different kind of programming to Hardy than the present Director Ireatha Robinson whose activities have been more centered around toddlers and seniors: this is in large part due to the demographics of our immediate Foxhall neighborhood, however all the toddlers are quickly growing up to elementary school age and will likely be as interested in soccer and other outdoor recreation. As capable as Mr. Brown appears, residents still have concerns over where Mrs. Robinson will be transferred. Apparently, close to 100 recreational specialist personnel are now being moved around within Dept of Parks & Rec'n - an effort by Neil Albert to ensure equal vitality in Recreation programming across the city. This isn’t the only shuffle FCCA is concerned about: the status of Reciprocity Parking Stickers (RPP) for those of us in Precinct 7 switching from Ward 2 back to Ward 3 seems to be in a shambles. The DC agency responsible for RPP seems unaware of the mandated date of change of Ward. What will be the dual Ward2/Ward 3 sticker transition period and when does that start? Will the parking signs be updated at the same time as the stickers? Will there be any proactive effort to enforce DC residents with out-of-state plates to register, and if so who will take that initiative? Can any agency (DMV, DPW, MPD) succeed in enforcing this without Council passing strong and simple legislation to streamline dealing with out-of-state scofflaws? © Bob Andrew, Foxhall |
