Neighborhood Notes - Foxhall: 25 October, 2000
Next Saturday October 28, Hardy Field & Rec. Center will be alive with kids
and adults all day long. From 9 am 1 pm we have the normal hourly rotation of three
U-8 Stoddert Soccer teams playing at the same time, crossways on the field since these are
youngsters.
Then at 1 p.m. Friends of Hardy host an informational session on the upcoming
reconstruction of the soccer / softball field. Participating will be staff from D.C. Parks
& Recreation responsible for the contract, from BBI Contracting who will do the work,
invited representatives from four organized and permitted regular users of the fields
(D.C. City Snickers league, Stoddert, Rock Creek International School and Georgetown Day
School). Invited are all nearby neighbors (those within 200 ft will get a separate
invitational leaflet) to learn about how construction impacts
will be mitigated also welcome are others interested in the development of this
neighborhood asset.
There are some design issues around options for fencing location, & operational issues
around necessary constraint on the field use after rain that are necessary for an
irrigated specialized field different from just the open park use today. It is important
for neighbors and users to have input into changes that will be coming in use of this
space!
End of the day will be the most fun of all. At 4 p.m. Foxhall holds its annual Halloween
parade from the Q Street circle, across Foxhall and down to the Rec. Center for costume
judging, pumpkin decorating and other neat games for kids. There is always a good turnout
from parents, but other neighbors whose kids are grown or not even born still get a
great kick out of this event each year. For more information, contact Ireatha Robinson,
Hardy Recreation Center Director at 282-2190.
