Neighborhood Notes - Foxhall: 20 December, 2000
A hardy group of parents and supporters braved the drizzling cold rain last
Saturday to install a frame for swings, springs for a 3-way rocker, and the wooden chassis
sections of a kids choo-choo at the Hardy Rec Center. While it yet may take a week
or so for the concrete to be strong enough for us to hang the swings and mount the rocker,
volunteers are still working on putting together all the myriad pieces of the train.
More good news at Hardy Forney Construction have taken over from their sub BB&I
and will begin the soccer field renovation, as soon as the weather forecast shows four
work days clear of rain. The design will be simpler than earlier, to maximize open space:
just a soccer field with no softball diamond, backstop or outfield. A six-foot fence will
surround the three youth-size fields each 90 ft by 150 ft. Old tree stumps and three-foot
fence will be removed along Foxhall Rd, and a new concrete path laid between the soccer
fields and RCIS, from Foxhall Rd to the Rec. Center.
Finally, a correction from last week. While temporary traffic lights for Canal Rd median
still did not get into operation last week, the fault lay not with PEPCO but the Bureau of
Traffic Services in DPW taking what seems an undue time to advise routing for power and
signal cable. It would be a gift for all seasons to be dump truck-free in
Foxhall/Palisades before the New Year!
Given how long it took DPW to get their traffic light sequence working properly at Lab
School driveway, it does not look promising for their operations role in permanent
lights at Canal Road with a stacking lane to allow inbound cars to turn left into GU.
