Neighborhood Notes - Foxhall: 6 February 2002
New direction at the Hardy Recreation Center (HRC)
has brought to the community a whole host of new ideas. Rodney L. Brown, the new
site-manager for the Center, and Enrique Leiva, the Center’s veteran recreation
specialist, are keyed up for spring Espanol classes and other community
activities available to Foxhall residents.
Leiva says the idea for the Center to host Spanish classes developed after
neighbors repeatedly requested a need for the community to introduce a second
language course.
“Parents of the neighborhood were looking for Spanish language help,” said
Leiva. “So we decided to look into offering the class.”
The Center’s staff is also in the midst of coordinating community aerobic
classes for March, which will meet every Monday, from 6
p.m. to 7 p.m. Also, if neighbors are
interested in improving their kitchen presence, Brown is planning a weekly
cooking class and hopes to invite youth and adults to participate.
Tennis, basketball, and soccer activities will be offered as weather improves,
but Brown insisted their primary goal is to promote a safe haven for the
community to learn and partake in recreation.
“I want kids to come to Hardy Recreation Center to
have fun and be in a safe environment to enjoy these fun activities,” Brown
said.|
Both Leiva and Brown urge residents to contact the Center for further
information or to register for any of these activities at 202-282-2190.
