Professional & Family Life of Bob ANDREW: now in United Arab Emirates

Neighborhood Notes - Foxhall: 18 July 2001

Hardy field and playgrounds continue to look better, thanks to John Davis at DC Parks & Recreation and the "Friends of Hardy". There is a new elegant, low maintenance black fence along the field on the Foxhall Road border, with matching black safety railing for the ramp, and bicycle parking facilities near the Rec. Center. The entrance to the Tot Lot is freshly paved with engraved bricks containing names of all those who gave donations for equipment, and the sandbox is overflowing with seven tons of new sand!

Ward 3 Traffic Committee now has a working spreadsheet list of places for every ANC where action was requested, with assignment of the ANC commissioner responsible for oversight and city agency responsible for action, including target dates for completion. Ward 3 Neighborhood Service Coordinator Phil Heinrich is maintaining this, ensuring that it will be a living document.

The intersection of Foxhall and MacArthur sports new “Don’t Block the Box” signs, plus a painted grid on the street to reinforce the message. While this will help flow through this intersection for left-turning traffic in the morning rush-hour, a large reason for in-bound traffic backup on Foxhall and MacArthur every weekday continues to be mis-timed lights at Canal & Foxhall, and a deliberate lack of synchronization with those at MacArthur & Foxhall. How much longer will DC's residents have to suffer through traffic light timing favoring Virginia and Maryland commuters inbound on Canal Road?
