Neighborhood Notes - Foxhall: 16 May 2001There is still a curious disconnect in the redistricting process where, despite the general move of Ward boundaries westward to deal with the loss of population east of the Anacostia, the current D.C. Council proposal for Ward 3 (which needs to LOSE population) actually ADDS the Foxhall community back into Ward 3. This was supported by Councilor Jack Evans, who seems from his statements on Channel 13 to be glad to be rid of our area and Glover Park. Although he has claimed this is to help keep more area on the west to maintain diversity of Ward 2, can it also be that his decision was influenced by the fact that two of his previous election rivals, Pete Ross and Spencer Hollis, live in Foxhall? Councilor Kathy Patterson has spoken publicly at Ward 3 Dems on re-vamping the Residential Parking sticker program to be city-wide so that vehicles registered in DC retain the privilege to stay longer than 2 hours in non-metered spaces, while commuters from MD and VA would still not be able to park all day. It would help if she would propose draft regulatory language ASAP. Kathy Patterson also raised again the possibility of having ANC’s that cross Ward boundaries, as does Woodley Park now. Although she offered this in discussion with the Chevy Chase ANC on their imminent split between Ward 3 and 4, this could be an option for the Foxhall area to be in Ward 3 but stay part of Ward 2. Under the legislation, this will be the call of task forces to be setup within each ward - would either Councilor select a representative from Foxhall to address this issue? © Bob Andrew, Foxhall |
