Neighborhood Notes - Foxhall: 13 September, 2000

Fall season brings out neighbors from all over. Saturday September 16 from 10 am - 4 pm Foxhall Village holds a large community yard sale on the circles on Greenwich Parkway and Q St between Foxhall Rd and 44 St, plus some will hold sales in front yards of homes that border the communal areas.

After the yard sales is over and cleaned up, the local community will then gather for a BBQ from 5:30 until dusk on the lower Q St circle, with invitation extended to all Foxhall area homeowners and student renters alike.

Wednesday September 20 Foxhall Community Citizens Association (FCCA) holds a bi-monthly meeting at Hardy Rec. Center at 7:30 pm. This features a presentation from the developers of a former farmhouse site on Lingan Rd, an update on short-term low-cost traffic improvements by DPW for Reservoir Rd plus the traffic mitigation study funded by MedStar Health on medium-term engineering options for internal campus traffic’s interaction with this road. FCCA’s agenda include advising residents of options with television service with the advent of StarPower for residences, imminent change of ownership of District Cablevision, and choices with satellite television vs cable. Providers typically offer internet access as well, just to complicate choices!

The following Saturday September 23 we turn our eyes to community service. From 9 a.m. - noon volunteers will gather in each Foxhall alley to whack back the tremendous weed growth we’ve had this humid summer then bag it up for DPW’s “Helping Hands” trucks to haul away later. At the same time the “Friends of Hardy” will conduct a similar cleanup at the Q Street and Foxhall entrances to Hardy Recreation Center and Field. Afterwards, we will converge at the Rec Center from 1 p.m. on for the annual FCCA picnic.
