Neighborhood Notes - Foxhall: 13 December, 2000
Foxhall Rd and MacArthur Boulevard are experiencing a daily
heavy dose of large dump trucks hauling excavated dirt from Mt Vernon College, St. Patricks
Gym and Georgetown University. While MVC excavation should be complete mid-month, GU still
has very many months to go. If you are wondering why theyre not using their
temporary traffic lights on the Canal Rd median, it seems that PEPCO are taking many weeks
to get the power to them! In what seems a desperate move, GU are now contemplating using
flagmen on Canal Rd to enable their trucks to cross the median dangerous for the
workers on a multi-lane road. Getting PEPCO to promptly improve their field service is the
right answer.
Parks & Rec have also been tardy at Hardy Field. On
Saturday December 16 Hardy Playground Pals will install Tot Lot equipment they raised all
the money for; even through DPR had earlier insisted on being responsible for this phase.
Installation will happen between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m, and more volunteers are always welcome.
There still is no sign of the contractor for their soccer field renovation
hopefully BB&I are just busy with other fields they are renovating city-wide, and
havent just taken our taxpayer money without doing the work.
On Sunday evening GUs Office of Off-Campus Affairs held
a holiday Town-Gown Mixer and Open House, a welcome initiative of their
students to improve neighborhood relationships. One of the more interesting by-products of
an arduous GU Campus Plan renewal process was mutual realization, with students, that
over-crowding and quality of life is also an on-campus issue, and that overdeveloping a
campus beyond optimum layout can diminish the educational experience.
