Neighborhood Notes - Foxhall: 11 October, 2000
This week marks a triumph of persistence over bureaucracy. Thanks to unflagging
efforts by Ed Dixon, Hardy Playground Pals finally won design approval from DC Parks &
Rec to install three pieces of equipment for which they raised the money! Neighbors who
live within the Foxhall Community Citizens Association boundaries will see more details in
home-delivered October Foxhall News, also on-line at http://www.foxhall.org/News/fccanews.htm.
Within hopefully a few weeks, arising from the playground safety surface will be tot
swings, a three-way rocker, and a stationary train with engine, carriage and wagon. People
interested in helping HPP are invited to their $30/head benefit Ethiopian dinner on Monday
October 16 from 6 8:30 p.m at Entotto restaurant, 1609 Foxhall Rd.
Also starting soon is refurbishing of the Hardy Recreation Center basketball court by Fort
Myers Construction Company, involving blacktop re-surfacing, vinyl-coated chain link
fencing and new backboards. But the biggest project imminent at Hardy Field is the total
reconstruction of their soccer and softball field area by BB&I Construction. This
involves significant earth works, in order to make this field more level, rather than
slope downhill. The Foxhall Road end of the field could be several feet lower and the far
end raised an equal amount to minimize the amount of fresh soil to be brought in for the
final irrigated sod surface. Even after construction estimated at several months, Hardy
field will still not usable for a few weeks, to allow the new surface to soundly take
root.
Likeliest start date is late November, right after Stoddert Soccer season which has U-8
teams Saturdays at Hardy, as well as DCs own Snickers Soccer league during the week.
Friends of Hardy will hold a special review meeting for neighbors about design
and construction details on Saturday afternoon, Oct 28.
