Stockholm

Stockholm is a very pretty city - often referred to as the Venice of the North. It was built on a number of islands and the Old Part of Town lies on one of these islands. Moller's hotel is an excellent location. You can easily walk around the old part and then conveniently walk up to Söder (The South), which has become a new "in" part of town. Besides many restaurants and pubs and little shops you'll find quaint walking trails with beautiful views over the city.  From The Old Town you can also take the ferry over to Djurgården, a very large park area, which once upon a time served as the king´s hunting grounds. Nowadays it holds Skansen open air museum, which is very worthwhile to visit for a few hours. You can read up on it on the internet. Djurgården also has several small cafes and restaurants, boat harbours and many fine museums.

Another favourite part of Stockholm is Östermalm. It is fun to walk around in the area and visit the old food-hall (Östermalmshallen). Anki always stops there at the Lisa Almquist restaurant for a nice fish luncheon. From Östermalm you should walk down to Stureplan - the area where the young and beautiful are said to hang out at night (how should I know?), and where you also can find a quite nice shopping mall. The best department store, NK, you will find a little up the road towards The Old Town.

Another pretty island not far from The Old Town is Skeppsholmen. You can walk there past the Grand Hotell, the National Gallery and the Modern Museum. It could also be interesting to tour City Hall where the Nobel Prize winner's gala dinner is held in December every year. It offers a great view over Stockholm from its tower. If you have time - a boat tour in the archipelago is always a treat! I could go on and on but for a two-day visit I think I'll stop here and wish you a wonderful time in Stockholm - Anki Tegg's home town :)
