40th Reunion, 1st Graduating Class

Reunion Thu 22-Mon 26 July '10, Fiskebäckskil on Skafto, Sweden
Reunion Plans developed by Geoff Tegg/Klaus Moller

Chemical and Materials Engineering, University of Auckland

Timing: Thursday July 23 - Monday July 26 or longer. Vacation time in Sweden puts pressure on flights, golf, accommodations, restaurants, etc. The archipelago is full of boats and people; place is really humming!

How Long
? Program covering 2 & 1/2 days might be about right. Say arrival on Friday, dinner at the Teggs. Saturday in the archipelago (we can handle eighteen people in our two boats), lunch on an island, Reunion dinner at local (first class) restaurant. Sunday, another day in the archipelago, informal lunch on the boats, casual dinner. For those golfers among us Geoff suggests arranging tee times Monday morning (rental clubs etc no problem) - any takers? Obviously all or any of you are welcome to arrive earlier and stay longer.

Activities: We plan two days in the archipelago weather permitting (leisurely start and back in time for a rest before dinner!).  We think these are among the most spectacular boating waters in the world.  Prepare to be amazed!  Over two days we can sample both the inner and outer archipelagos with stops for swimming, water skiing, wakeboarding, snorkeling, dining, exploring etc. But there are other things to do and if it rains …… we may do some of them.  See Skafto.com - it has a great gallery of pictures (bilder in Swedish) of the island. Great walks: half the island is a nature reserve. Golf course a few minutes away by car (Teggs belong). Kayaks are available for rent in next village (Grundsund), Art Galleries and Museums etc.

Accommodation: Anki and Geoff have three bedrooms in the house. We have allocated two bedrooms in our house to families Sargisson and Jones (chosen first come, first served), which leaves choices for the rest. Great full service Gullmarsstrand hotel only ~200 m from the Tegg's place, ranked one of the absolute best conference hotels in Sweden. it is right on the water, all amenities including a new mini spa.  Rooms booked have great views over the fjord, 1700 SEK ($NZ340) per night for dbl room including breakfast - a fair price for what you get. There's cheaper island accommodation for those who wanting to stay extra days, keep costs down.  The Skafto Golf Club has 6 dbl for 750 SEK/night incl. breakfast. The hotel rooms have balconies with wonderful views over the fjord to Lysekil and the setting sun. The Golf Club rooms are clean and comfortable (Youth Hostel standard) with shared bathrooms in the corridor It is 2.2 kms – 25 min walk – from the house. Klaus and Kirsten have a spare double berth on their 36' sloop. They kindly offered veteran sailors Jim and Jennifer the option to set up their air mattresses there.
